It’s been a wet spring here in New England, but just because the weather is dreary doesn’t mean the day has to be! Here are some simple, screen-free ideas to help make the most of a rainy day, whether you stay cozy inside or decide to embrace the wetness.

Outdoor Rainy Day Fun
- Put on rain boots and go puddle jumping!
- Paint with mud using sticks and leaves as brushes.
- Try a rain-walk scavenger hunt: can you find 3 worms, a snail, or a leaf floating in a puddle?
- Make leaf boats and race them in the gutter or puddles.
- Blow bubbles and watch how they behave in the rain!
- Mud puddle sensory play!
Cozy Indoor Rainy Day Activities
- Blanket fort + flashlights + books = instant magic.
- Let them “paint” the windows with a sponge and a little water (or actually paint the windows).
- Have a themed toy day (dump all the cars or animals and make a story).
- Bake something simple together. Muffins, banana bread, cookies, or even just pancakes.
- Create a sensory bin.
- Set up an indoor obstacle course using pillows and couch cushions.
- Have a toy wash station: fill the sink with bubbly water and let them scrub plastic toys.
- Arts and crafts!

Rainy days can be just as memorable as the sunny ones. You just need a little creativity and maybe a lot of towels 😉
