Life with toddlers is absolute chaos. Our one year old is currently cutting 3 molars, and this recent heat has not helped his situation any. Some days I don’t even know what day it is, or if I remembered to drink water even though I’ve chased the boys around all day with their water bottles. But I’ve realized something. If I do this one thing every day to make the house feel a little less wild, I feel more like myself.
For me, that one thing is making the beds. It takes 5 minutes or less, and it makes me feel like I didn’t completely lose the day to messes, snacks, and potty training. And you know what? My husband even makes his side of the bed when he gets up now (about an hour before I do) too so I’m willing to bet he feels the same.
It’s not about having a Pinterest perfect home. It’s about creating one moment of calm. That’s enough.
If you don’t care to make your bed or you’re already doing that but it’s not cutting it anymore, here’s a few simple ideas you could add into your day to bring yourself some peace:
- Do a quick sink clean before bed
- Tidy up the entryway shoe situation
- Wipe down counters after lunch
- Toss all the toys back in the bin before nap
- Set a 10-minute timer to pick up the living room
So tell me, what’s the one thing you do to find peace in the daily chaos?

My kids are a little older but these are really good tips! Going to bed with a clean sink has been life changing for me. It makes the morning so much easier and less chaotic.
This is exactly what I do as well. The beds HAVE to be made or I feel like I’ve lost control over the entire home!
I hear you, Mama! Making the bed doesn’t really help much. Even with my older kids, it’s challenging to find peace amidst the chaos. I try to fold the laundry, or at least some of it. However, I love your idea of using a 10-minute timer to tidy up the living room or tackle other areas, like a messy drawer or sorting paperwork.
