Let’s be honest. Some days it feels like everything is everywhere. The toys, the laundry, the snack crumbs. But even when life is chaotic, it can still look like you’ve got it all under control. All you need is with 10 minutes and a plan.
Whether you’re expecting a visitor or just need your own brain to believe everything’s fine for a minute, here’s your go-to list for a quick refresh.
1. Tackle the Entryway or Living Room First
This is the space people see first and the space that gives you that instant “clean-ish” feeling. Toss shoes into a basket, fluff a pillow, fold a blanket. Done.
2. Wipe Down Surfaces
Grab a wipe or rag and give the counters, coffee table, and bathroom sink a once-over. Instant sparkle, very little effort.
3. Dishes. Even Just the Visible Ones
Load them in the dishwasher. You are the dishwasher? Stack them neatly. Somehow that makes it seem better. My hack for when I don’t have time for the dishes yet is to just wash a few every time I need to wash my hands.
4. Toss Toys into the Nearest Basket
Don’t overthink it. Just scoop and dump. If there’s no time for cleaning there probably isn’t time for being organized either but at least you’ll feel better if they’re off the floor.
5. Light a Candle or Spray a Room Mist
If it smells good, it kinda just feels clean. Science. Ok, not really but if it works, it works..
6. Straighten The Pillows & Blankets
Fluffed and folded = fresh and intentional. It’s the fastest “my house is cute” hack.
7. Close Doors
Out of sight, out of mind. Nobody needs to know what your laundry room looks like right now.
8. Do a Quick Trash Check
Empty kitchen and bathroom trash cans if they’re full or smelly. The little things matter.
9. Pick One Mirror to Shine Up
A streak-free mirror gives off major “I try” energy. Another tip? Toss the Windex right out the window you were about to clean. Just kidding, that wouldn’t be very tidy of you. But honestly my mirrors look better when I only use a clean rag with hot water, and dry it with a dry rag.
10. Take a Deep Breath
You’ve done enough. You don’t need a spotless house to be doing a great job.
